Personal Studies
Transparency
The transparency projects were designed as methods to discover my own opacity and visibility in this world as a queer and person of color. Disappearance has been crucial to queer/POC survival which is developed in my photo project where I physically removed myself from memories linked to unwelcomeness. The project was adapted into my main medium of 3D, created in a mock installation of the inversion of its predecessor. Visibility was transformed from transparencies to dark silhouettes recognizing my personal transformation of coming into myself.
Fan Ho
Playing with contrast and mood lighting to develop the above installation, I studied the work of photographer Fan Ho who created moving stills of the portrayal of truth and his pursuit of finding truth. It felt only right to use him as inspiration for the creative direction of my transparency projects after designing the rendered image to the left.
A Last Supper
Gracing through the communal aspects of ritualistic practices this installation was designed to honor the dead in a last communion. This custom involves sharing a meal and drinks with a passed spirit in seeking protection from them beyond the grave. As food is consumed it’s shared into the skull. Offerings of their vices are given to the deceased at the base of the altar. After the meal, the skull is sealed in candle wax and a final goodbye is spoken. It’s encouraged for participants to study Wiccan practices before indulging in this ritual to prevent negative reactions.
Inspired by the musical talents of Hozier in his video Dinner and Diatribes I studied mood lighting to depict tense gothic scenes.
Meditation
This breathing exercise loops in a gif to provide anxiety reducing meditative practices to steady the breath and clear the mind.
