Environment Modeling

JACK: A Short Film

Jack’s Apartment Complex, Exterior

Loosely based off of my grandfather’s apartment complex I visited growing up, this dreamy 3D environment is textured with two dimensional digital paintings. To tie together the mixed media aspects, the backgrounds and foreground elements were also drawn digitally.

Jack’s Apartment, Interior

This modern take of a retro living room shows off Jack’s personality through the intentional use of curvy shapes and bold colors. The main elements and thee background are digital drawings.

Supermarket, Exterior

To capture the warm vastness of a small midwestern town, the supermarket stands alone occupied by few cars and abandoned shopping carts. The stillness of the environment is interrupted by Jack’s Jeep zooming through. Just as every scene before, the backgrounds and model textures are digital paintings.

Supermarket, Interior

Using bold saturated products against mundane beige bones, the supermarket interior contrasts a lack of consumers in its empty aisles with busy vibrant shelves.

Jack’s Balcony, Exterior

The audiences first look at Jack, this environment allows the viewer to meet him outside to get a feel for his personality before being invited into his home. He has papers sprawled on the tabletop and cigarettes overflowing the ashtray. These small details are indicators to lead the viewer to his main conflicts in the story.
